one in a minion

Don't you just love Despicable Me?  Yeah, I don't get it either.

But my daughter loves it.
No, she's not two.  She's 22.

Emma spends a lot of time out in the cold because I kicked her out.

Just kidding.

She's off at college and walks everywhere.  Baby needs a hat.  Or two.

Last year I made her this penguin hat.

This year I whipped up a Minion hat.  And by "whipped," I mean that I cursed quite a bit while making the eyes.  They're my nemeses.  Do you have any idea how difficult it is to make a tiny crochet round?  Be afraid.  Be very afraid.

I basically used the pattern here, but altered it to look more like this one here.

Phil tried it on for size.

And here's the finished product.

And here it is on the head of my child.

She has an affliction where hair grows from only one side of her head.

Isn't she beautiful?
Emma Jo...you're one in a Minion!

So is Philly.

  1. Cute Hats....Talented hands to make it which I do not have when it comes to yarn and tools to make them with! I tried but would end up very frustrated to the point of tears. My mother used to laugh at me when I would just throw them down in frustration. Anyhow, I have grown to know that I leave that talent to somebody more able than myself!

  5. She is beautiful, and I love the hats. Poor Hurricane has to go out to buy hats because her mommy has no talent. She also refuses to be on my blog because she is a party pooper. She's afraid that her students will see her and ask her stupid questions. I don't know why anyone would think that anything about my blog is odd or unusual.

    Love,
    Janie

  6. That you can crochet and actually MAKE something (besides a chain 32 miles long) is, in itself, a major achievement. Not to mention the fact that the hats are adorable. You deserve an award. So does Phil. Any man who would try on the hat, then let his pic be taken and put on the web is aces in my book! (ACES? My age is showing.) You da bom.....that's better......Dona

  16. My thirteen-year-old grand-daughter went out for Halloween as a minion. That did not set well with me, but I said nothing after I shrieked and my daughter laughed. I can crochet those eyes easily. However, I could not crochet the hat. I have a talent worth nothing. Who needs little circles of crochet>

  21. Very cute!!! The eyes turned out beautifully! Sad about your daughter's hair only growing on one side of her head...I guess it's good there's kind of a half shaved hair thing going around right now.
